2007 200K - Chemainus, BC - April 7, 2007
'I had a great idea! I would do all the qualifying brevets for the PBP in one week ... Vancouver Island's Hell Week. It didn't work out quite as I had intended.'

2007 200K - Red Deer, Alberta - May 5, 2007
'When we got to Rocky Mountain House everything changed ... the temperature reached a nice warm 15 degrees, the sun was shining, and we had a GREAT tailwind all the way back.'

2007 300K - Red Deer, Alberta - May 12, 2007
'By the time I got to Spruce View, I was wiped out. The wind had been so incredibly strong. I promised myself that when I got to Spruce View, I would take a 15 minute break and sit down in the shade somewhere and drink a whole bottle of
iced tea. And I did! Spruce View was 135 kms into the ride, and that was the first real break I took.'

2007 400K - Red Deer Lakes - June 2, 2007
'The last time I rode in temperatures as warm as what it was on this ride would probably have been on
the UMCA 24-hour at the beginning of September. I'm more used to riding in conditions where 18C is
considered blistering hot. My energy just drained out of me. I stopped by the side of the road and tried to eat a bit, but
most of my food had melted and was very difficult to eat. There had been clouds forming in the west
over the mountains, and just then one large, blackish cloud moved in front of the sun and
stopped there. Almost instantly it felt cooler and I decided to try to keep moving.'

2007 600K - Red Deer River - May 26/27, 2007
'I've driven this route, but have never cycled it, and I forgot one thing . at the
bottom of the 9% grade decent is a one-lane wooden bridge!! That made for a hair-raising moment or
two! The climb out of the valley was quite something too. I just about kept pace with a heavily
loaded semi who was crawling up the hill with his 4-way flashers on. I nearly blew a gasket on that
climb . I was way overdressed so I was overheating badly, and I was absolutely covered in
mosquitoes, which had me flailing around trying to get them off.'

2007 Golden Triangle Tour - May 19, 2007
'The ride starts with a 7 km climb on an 8% grade. Good way to start a tour!! I stopped once to use
my inhalers, but otherwise cruised right up. The first stop was at about 8 kms because they don't
serve breakfast the first morning, and because that climb takes riders a little while. After that,
it is basically downhill until right near the end.'
