Rockhampton to Lake Awoonga - Hot day, my thermometer was reading about 41°C (106°F) on the highway. Also a long day, about 140 kms. For my first day out after taking a break with my knee, it was a very tough day. My knee was still in some pain, and then in the middle of the afternoon, in the heat of the day, I was on the verge of collapse. I almost crawled into a small rest stop area, and then laid down on a bench outside. My head was just banging with pain and Rob told me that my face was beat red. The very kind man at the stop gave me a bowl of cold water and a cloth and I bathed my head and neck in it and soaked my hands. I also drank a few glasses. That was lovely, and about half an hour later I was back on the road again. We arrived at the Lake Awoonga campsite after hours, pitched our tent, and then at about 4:30 am, when the birds, especially the kookaburras woke us up, we left the campsite and hit the road.
