Lake Awoonga to Granite Creek rest stop - Another hot day, thermometer reading about 41°C (106°F) again. But this time first thing in the morning we arrived at a roadhouse and I drank quite a bit. That seemed to help, and I kept drinking all day. Then about 2 pm or so, we noticed heavy clouds forming ahead of us and on a bit of a whim pulled into a roadhouse even though I was feeling all right and had enough liquid. Good thing we did. What we hadn't noticed was the heavy clouds forming behind us ... and that was the storm that hit a few minutes later. Thunder, lightening, torrential downpours. The storms kept hitting until about 5 pm and the next day we found out that power was out all along the coast and the storms had caused millions of dollars of damage to yachts. However the temperature dropped quite a bit and the night in the little rest area a bit further down the road was more comfortable.
